Santana McKinney-Carlton
Musical Theatre Beginning/Intermediate Santana has been teaching and working in the Musical Theatre field as well as Visual and Performing Arts with children for the past 9 years. Santana has also choreographed for other organizations such as The Theatre of Gadsden, Heritage Hall’s Arts Education Program, and 21 Century After-School and Summer Program. She has an Associate’s Degree in both Art and Business from Gadsden State Community College and will soon graduate with her B.A. degree in Technical Theatre from Jacksonville State University. Santana currently serves as the Artistic Director for the Children's Theatre and Lead Choreographer for CharACTers, as well as the Director/Instructor to the award winning CCT KIDS Competition and Performance Troupe. Some of her favorite roles include Peter Pan in Peter Pan the Musical, Elle Woods in Legally Blonde the Musical, Amber von Tussel in Hairspray, and Belle in Beauty and the Beast. |
Lauren Herring
Musical Theatre Kids and Jr. Lauren began dancing at the age of 9 years old. She took studio dance for several years in Gadsden from Miss Tammy’s Studio and Strut USA. She was a Crimsonette at Southside High School for 3 years. She was also a member of Winterguard (a competitive dance/spin team) at SHS for 2 years. She eventually went on to become a Jacksonville State University Ballerina from 2007-2011. She was a member of the competitive college dance team, Diamond Girls for 2 years, and went on to win Nationals in 2008 with this team. She currently is certified in Zumba, and has been teaching high school dancein Weaver, Alabama for 3 years. She believes it’s not always the best dancer that stands out, but the passion you have inside you that will make you become a better person and ultimately a better performer. Some of her favorite things include going on adventures, traveling the world, rescuing animals, and photography. “Great dancers are not great because of their technique, they are great because of their passion.” Martha Graham. |
Annie Waldrop
Musical Theatre Assistant Instructor Annie is a recent graduate of Gadsden City High School, where she graduated 16 out of 350, top 10% in her class with honors and received . Annie has been with CharACTers from the beginning in 2007. She was a member of the Dreamcatchers Performance Team (2010-2012) and is now a graduated member of the CCT KIDS Competition and Performance Troupe. Annie has also served as Dance/Troupe captain for the past 5 years. Some of her favorite roles include Laker Girl in Spamalot, Goldilocks in Shrek, and Peter's Shadow in Peter Pan. |
Musical Theatre - Beginning - Ages 7-12

The 101 class offers lessons and techniques that are taught in the award winning CCT KIDS class, but on a level that the even the smallest drama king or queen can relate to. Students learn through games, craft projects and activities.
Fall Semester: Students will learn everything from the basic principles of Musical Theatre to the art of theatre, as well as theatre history. Musical Theatre - Intermediate - Ages 8 and up

In the 102 class, students will improve upon the skills and techniques learned in the 101 class. Students will be given the chance to show off what they've learned at the end of each semester.
Fall Semester: Continued study of Musical Theatre and Theatre History. Students will also work on various projects including Scene Study, Monologues and Music Solo work, Improvisation, Speech and Alliteration, and Creative Movement. Winter/Spring Semester: Students will begin working on a short 20-30min production that will be presented as part of the CCT Season Finale. *Musical Theatre 102 Class is only available to those who have completed the 101 Class. Musical Theatre Dance KIDS - Ages 5-8

Musical Theatre Dance KIDS is a combo class, where students will be taught the basics of Ballet, Jazz and Tap.
Beginning students will explore the technique and structure associated with the art of ballet and jazz. Students will be taught the basics that are needed in the world of Musical Theatre. Later in the year, the Tap portion of the class explores the foundations of Tap. Tap is essential to any budding Broadway performer or aspiring dancer. Instructor: Lauren Herring |
Musical Theatre Dance JR - Ages 9-12

Musical Theatre Dance JR is a combo class, where students will be taught the basics of Ballet, Jazz and Tap.
Musical Theatre Dance Jr will focus on the continued exploration of barre and center technique in ballet. Students will be challenged with intermediate levels of step patterns in jazz. Later in the year, Intermediate Tap will continue the basic techniques and steps, but will also give students the challenge of harder rhythmic patterns. *Younger Students with previous Tap/Ballet experience may be promoted to the Intermediate level class, but only at the discretion of the Instructor.
